Tiger Woods Divorce

8/23/2010 (Update)
Attorneys for Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren Woods have announced that the couple have divorced, confirming rumors that have swirled for most of 2010.

“We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future,” the couple said in a joint statement that leaves zero doubt as to where their future concerns will lie. “While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us.”

Terms of the divorce were not disclosed, but it’s likely that Elin Woods will receive a handsome financial incentive in return for her silence. Chances are it won’t approach the outlandish $750 million figure bandied about earlier this year, but once you get into 9 figures, does that first digit even matter?

Today’s news closes a chapter on a story that began last Thanksgiving, when news of Woods’ infidelities came to light. A simple one-car accident kicked off a story that alternately fascinated, disgusted and amused fans worldwide. Woods took time off from the game, spent time in a treatment facility for sex addiction, endured scathing criticism and merciless teasing, and finally returned to the course a different player. (See a complete timeline of the Tiger Woods scandal here.)

Without speculating on the family dynamics of the Woods — and not at all to discount the effect that this will have on Woods’ children — it’s obvious that Tiger had more on his mind this last year than ever before, and it’s understandable that the off-course pressures would have had a dramatic impact on his so far very un-Tigerlike play.

We’ll leave the cheap jokes — and oh, there will be many — about what Tiger will be up to after his divorce to others. Divorce is never without pain, but perhaps this will help Tiger put 2010 behind him once and for all and move onward.

The latest news from the Tiger Woods’ camp is that his wife Elin Woods has moved out of the couple’s Florida home and is now caring for her mother who fell ill last week and was rushed to the hospital. Rumors are still floating around that Elin Woods is determined to divorce Tiger after the new year and move back to Sweden where she has reportedly already bought a massive home, a home many are referring to as a mansion. The divorce is pending, but with both sides obtaining legal council, there will undoubtedly be fireworks over the next several months. According to sources, the couple wants to try their best to make Christmas a special event for their two children before Elin officially leaves Tiger and takes the kids with her.

According to news sources, at this point there are at least 9 women now claiming to have had an affair with world renown golfer, Tiger Woods. In an earlier report, we discussed two of the women that Woods allegedly had an affair with, Rachel Uchitel and Jaimee Grubbs.

Over the past couple of days, we’ve heard rumors of an affair with porn star Holly Sampson, and waitress Mindy Lawton. Let’s see, then there’s Las Vegas cocktail waitress, Jamie Jungers, Mindy Lawton, who claims to have had a year-long affair with Woods beginning in 2006, and Cori Rist, who, evidently, met Woods last year at a Manhattan club and has been seeing him ever since.

Lawton’s sister, Lynn, told reporters that Woods met Mindy while she was working as a manager at an Orlando-area Perkins restaurant. She said a few weeks later, Woods and Mindy went to the Blue Martini nightclub, where they drank in the VIP area.

“All he cared about was lust,” according to Mindy. “All Tiger cared about was getting me into bed.”

Rumors of Tiger Woods’ divorce are rampant in the tabloids after more than one woman has come forth claiming to be his mistress.

There’s Rachel Uchitel, the 34-year-old New York City club hostess, who has a reputation for attracting married celebrities.

“Although I’ve been romantically linked to a famous baseball player, a Broadway star, a musician, and various film and television actors, I will never kiss and tell,” said Uchitel.

Then there’s the Los Angeles cocktail waitress, 24-year-old Jaimee Grubbs, who claims to have had 20 sexual encounters during her 31-month relationship with Tiger that began in April 2007.

Another story about Tiger’s infidelity is from a witness who says he was in a Miami hotel room, a little over an hour from his home, guarded by two well-dressed security personnel, with a dark-haired woman, who was clearly not his wife.

The evidence from Tiger’s Friday morning accident shows that there were no traces of blood found in the crashed vehicle, leading police to believe his injuries were cause after he exited the SUV; after his wife allegedly rescued Tiger by breaking out the back window and unlocking the driver’s door to drag him out.

Tiger’s lawyer, Mark NeJame, refuses to allow police to have a copy of the Woods’ surveillance video.

If the above allegations are true, the question is how much longer is Tiger’s wife, former Swedish model Elin Nordegren, willing to put up with her husband cheating on her. In the past, we’ve seen sports celebrities’ wives put up with their husband’s betrayal, and we’ve also seen sports celebrities’ wives kick their husbands to the curb. Only time will tell Tiger’s fate.
