“We are pleased with the judge’s order,” said Anthony’s Former Business Manager
Tuesday, 8. December 2009
In Sacramento, California, Judge William B. Shubb gave Carmelo Anthony’s attorneys until December 25 to amend the pro-ball player’s original complaint and to file the amended one.
Anthony, who plays for the Denver Nuggets, originally filed the lawsuit on August 17, accusing his former business manager, Larry W. Harmon and Harmon-Castillo LLP, of misappropriating $2 million in assets. According to Shubb, the lawsuit did not plead facts that suggest the defendant is liable.
“Plaintiffs, however, are admonished to thoroughly and carefully set forth their allegations in any subsequent amended complaint, as both judicial resources and fairness to defendants preclude unlimited opportunities to amend the pleadings,” warned Shubb.

“While we are pleased with the judge’s order, we come away from it with a damaged reputation, a substantial loss in earnings and harm to something upon which we cannot place a price: our good name,” according to a statement given to the Associated Press by Harmon. “Our job was to guide Carmelo and advise him when we thought his money was being unwisely spent. We looked out for him in the way we do all of our clients and the result was his anger and this lawsuit.”

Larry W. Harmon
Anthony is not the only NBA star to sign with Harmon & Associates. Drew Gooden, 6-10 forward with the Dallas Mavericks, and Juan Dixon, a guard with the Washington Wizards. According to sources, there have been other professional basketball, football, and baseball players who’ve also hired the firm to manage their assets.
There’s been no word as to if any of these athletes have left Harmon since Anthony initially filed suit.
“I tell people the same thing,” said Harmon in a press statement in February of 2004. “You have the potential for a long career, but more likely than not it will be short. Our obligation is to help you save every penny you can in that short time.”

I wonder if those other pro-athletes you mentioned are still with Harmon and Castillo… I also wonder what exactly Harmon did that Carmelo felt was poor handling of his assets. I guess the judge had the same question! I’ll be interested to see the outcome of this case.
